357 magnum 6" barrel VS 45 ACP/AARP in a 1911 full size.

1911 .45 acp for me.
I use to hunt with .357 and it did an excellent job but 1911 .45 acp with proper ammo killed just as dead with quicker follow up on hogs....and way easier to shoot.
FBI statistics say that a 357 is best for a one shot stop.
I have talked with many military vets but never heard one say anything bad about the stopping power of the 45.
Pick the one that you shoot the best.
I would pick the 357 for hunting and the 45 for self defense.

Considering that I carried a 1911 for 20+ years and got fairly proficient with it, I shot 5 rounds at 7 yards in into a 3” group in 0.83 of a second once with the range owner timing me. I couldn’t duplicate that with a 6” Python or a 4” S&W model 19 to save my life, first shot was dead on but the rest were all over the paper. I’m going with the 1911 simply because I’m much better with one than any revolver and most all other semi autos. Beretta is hard to beat for fast and accurate but it doesn’t come in .45 ACP…

Interesting.. I don’t consider capacity too much. Manual of arms being the same is what matters most to me . Muscle memory. All my autos I keep handy for SD are German by design. Hammer fired, double action, paddle mag release. 45acp night stand, 40 or 357 sig depending on which barrel was in place last range trip, close to my recliner, 9mm for daily cc. and 380acp (also German) for the Ms….

Plenty of info on shooting 45 super in a mk23 unmodified and some info on 460 Rowland in a mk23. I think 45 super might be a better comparison for a 357mag.

Looks like 357 18pgr 140pfps/784 ftlbs vs. 45super 186grain at 1300fps/694 ft lbs.

45acp+p 185gr at 592 ftlbs.

Numbers wise the 357 wins, but I'd take the 12 rounds of mk23 first.

1911 deserves a place in a nice sock drawer.
