Anybody Else Done With The NFL?

I quit supporting the NFL long ago. I would not watch a game on TV, or go to one if I had free tickets on the 50.

I would not even watch the Super Bowl if it was across the road from my house and free tickets.

I am like Wolfpenhiker, I am going to do my best not to buy from any supporter of that NFL crap.

I am done!!!

What they are counting on.........is time going by and us forgetting about it and giving in.

It ain't gonna happen at least with me. I don't take that kind of stuff lightly......and I don't forget.

Report: NFL Losing Its Core Audience

The National Football League is quickly losing its core audience marking a shift that could bring an end to the sport’s dominance, a new poll finds.

The WSJ/NBC poll found several things that should worry the NFL both for its near and long-term future. For instance, in the short-term, fans are paying less attention than ever to the NFL. But, more worrisome, in the long-term, parents are increasingly discouraging their children from playing football over concerns over the sport’s safety. The latter would tend to create fewer football fans into the future.

The effect does not seem to be localized, either. Fan interest in the NFL has dropped across the various demographics, including in the crucial growth demo of young males, according to the Wall Street Journal.

“The drop in interest spans age groups and the political spectrum—painting the picture of a sport that isn’t just experiencing a momentary dip, but a battle against fundamental questions about football’s future that have been building for years,” the Journal wrote.

On the heels of a contentious season, fans seem to have become fatigued by the NFL on a myriad of levels: ....

Poll: 16% of NFL Fans Claim They Will Not Watch the Super Bowl

If the NFL is planning on record ratings numbers for Super Bowl LII, they’re going to have to do it without a large portion of their loyal fan base.

That’s the word from a recent poll which shows that even many loyal NFL fans, plan on doing something other than watching football on Super Bowl Sunday.

...
The predicted 16% percent drop among NFL viewers for Super Bowl Sunday, is more severe than the 10% hit the league’s ratings took in the regular season. Couple that with the 46% of respondents who said they disapproved of the anthem protests, and it’s highly likely the anthem protest movement played a large role in souring interest in the Super Bowl.

Though, as Daniel Roberts of Yahoo! points out, the Super Bowl is still a cultural event, not merely a sporting event. Meaning the game has traditionally relied on its ability to draw non-traditional football fans to the television screens. So the question becomes, will there be enough non-traditional viewers to offset the drop in traditional NFL fans?

We will soon find out.
