Wife and I were just talking about that today. Hospitals can list your cause of death as Covid, if you were in there for cancer or heart failure and you just so happen to test positive for Covid while you're there. Not only does it fudge the numbers, it benefits insurance companies. An unknown fact is many insurance carriers have a "pandemic clause". Meaning, if there is a pandemic, and you catch that virus, they don't have to pay out.
It's worse than that. Per CDC guidelines they were allowed to count it as a virus death on symptoms alone with no testing confirmation. Some states have corrected this because they were called out. CO for example, the last I checked, was at a 23% reduction. The current death count is no where near accurate.
