Deck re-build question

I'm re-doing my deck boards and replacing the posts and railings. Is there a reason not to install the posts and cut the decking around the posts versus notching the posts and putting them on top of the decking? I've seen to done both ways and would rather put them on top but don't want to run into any code issues. Thanks

Code for rail posts now full 4X4 outside of deck. 3 Large lag screws into banding....

Tried to find pictures of my new deck with post. Not tonight, replaced them as well with new code rails In sunlight I’ll post some.

As of Jan 2020 Ga is no longer using the prescriptive deck details. We are going by IRC now. That being said, the rail details in the above link are still applicable.

Those posts look like they are on top of the decking vs notching the decking and sitting on the framing.

Thanks for the link. I'll not notch and them and apply bolts. I bought 3/8" and will need to get 1/2" to be safe. Thanks
