He!! yes they lie!!!! They ALL do, because they are human like all of us. That being said there is a thin blue line that divides the LEO's from the common Criminals. I belive that line is just a few points on a psych exam.

It might not of been a lie, but I always used the same sentence " do you have anything illegal like drugs, guns, knives, bombs or dead bodies in your vehicle?" "do you care if I look?".
The sad part is we wouldn't have to say those things if the criminals werent such POS and hide drugs and other things. I would rather someone tell a small lie to get consent to search and find drugs or what not than just not ask at all and the criminal get away. The criminals have more rights than the cops and I for one ain't happy that they do.

That being said, you can always say no o get a search warrant or a dog.

Ok, now I am curious...........how many people actually get sniffed or a warrant after denying consent to search? Everyone or just the "criminal looking" ones.

If its a suspicious stop and has indicators and a dog is nearby, yeah they get "sniffed" as you said. As far as a warrant goes, you better have a lot more than just a hunch. But if there is no dog and not enough evidence to warrant a search warrant, you just have to say have a nice day and try later. It's kinda like fishing or hunting, somedays you win some you don't.

I beg to differ. I don't lie to get people to incriminate themselves. I don't lie in the course of my daily work. Let's just say I despise lying.

LEO's lying to suspects is an accepted practice allowed by the courts.

I know how everyone feels about vehicle/personal searches. so here is my thought's, most of you find it offensive to have an officer lie to you to gain consent to search your vehicle/person. However if it were a child molester most people would say do whatever it takes to get the bastard. It is a double eged sword.

Having said that defense attorney's lying to the jurors is also an accepted practice by the courts, they have said that defense attorneys will have to some times lie or mislead to give their client a fair trial.

we have a lady police officer in our sunday school class and today she said one of the tricks they do to people is after they are done looking up someones license they will say ok have a good day and start to walk away then say to the person can i search your car for child porn we have found a lot of it in this area and i just need to check and make sure you don,t have any, is it ok for me to search your car for it? then she said most people don,t think nothing of it and say yes, then they search and find a pound of pot or something and make a bust. she said it was one of the tricks they do. i thought trick my foot that is a bald face LIE, i was shocked to hear this from someone that is suppose to know that lying is a sin.

Lying by LE, at all levels including the military,is a standard interrogation technique and not in and of itself a bad thing. For example, many eye witnesses, in fact, never exist but it gets the perpetrator talking and it becomes easier to convict. IMO never let anyone search your home, auto, boat or bike without a warrant. If you do, you are literally gambling with your freedom as you never know what might be "found" by someone that simply does not like you because of the vehicle you are in, the home you live in, your attitude etc.
