I don't think teachers are afraid of choice, vouchers yes. Public schools are pretty strapped for funds. Anything that takes away from that hurts.
Public schools are strapped for funds because they waste most of it
Most schools have more admin people than teachers
Plus when the money goes away so does the student , so the school doesn’t need the money
If half the students left , why would then need the same money ?
They could get rid of half the staff , only buy half as much food etc
And the vouchers and choice seem to work very well with college
Some of the public colleges are the best in the world , but it’s because they have to compete with all the other public colleges and with private colleges too
Imagine how terrible public colleges would be if you could only attend the one in your district , a map drawn up by some bureaucrat whose main Goal is the equal number of blacks and whites attending each school and you would be tossed in jail if you attended any other school other than the one the govt said you were allowed to attend
I think even with vouchers most parents would keep their kids in public schools
People think of schools like congress
Most representatives in Congress are terrible but mine is fantastic
Same with the schools
A lot of the public schools are terrible but the one my kid goes to is fantastic
I agree with some of your premise. Explain when the money goes away, so does the student.
I think your phrasing needs to be reversed then.
I don't know how state money is divided amongst school systems, but I'm sure it is based on county student populations. My wife briefly taught private school (the money wasn't very good/I'm not sure how many attract good teachers). As you said, a public school teacher does pretty good with benefits.
