Gander Mountain closings (threads merged)

GM in McDonough is getting what they deserve, let them reap what they sowed. I had on my LAST attempted purchase explain to me why they could not match an advertised price from one of their competitors after I asked if they matched prices. Said it was below cost, BS. It was below their desired profit margin. Anyways, I hope the arrogant clock sucker (non-working employee) reads this and remembers me while he draws unemployment. FO GM !

I went there when they first opened. They had a Ruger SP101 in 22lr, which was hard to come by at the time, for retail, IIRC, $679. I said, "hey, so-and-so at so-and-so can get this for me at $589 but he's got to order it (I was telling the truth too), will you match that price?"

The guy turns around and asks his boss, turns back to me and says "sure, how would you like to pay?" That's the only thing I ever bought in there and the only reason I even talked to the guy about the pistol in the first place was that I was kinda being a smart*** and wanted to poke at 'em about their high prices. Son of a gun called my bluff though...

I have got deals there, but not many or often. Glad you did.

Me and my cousin bought a Hornady AP press from the one in Snellville about a month ago. We ended up making friends with one of the guys behind the gun counter, if it weren't for him helping you'd be hard up to get help at th r gun counter. I haven't bought much from themy other than the press.

I had this same problem when I went in just before Christmas to buy a 22 rifle for my boys. Stood there waiting for 15-20 minutes. A couple employees were "helping" customers, more like showing them every gun in the place just to waste time. Other time clock riders were standing around on the sales floor talking to other time clock riders (I refuse to call them employees because they were not working), ignoring potential customers. I started to walk out and the Assistant manager asked if I found everything ok. Told her no and I'm going to Academy to buy the same rifle they had, at least I knew I might get some service there. She asked if she offered a discount, would I change my mind. She offered a decent discount, so I said yes. As I was standing at the counter waiting for her to finish up my transaction, I over heard another employee tell the customer they were helping "I work as an hourly employee, so it doesn't matter to me if I help 1 or 20 customers, I get paid the same."
I really wish I could find this guy again and ask him how his method of working turned out for him? Oh, it looks like you will be looking for another job asshat!

So many companies have overlooked the Customer Service part of their business model and just want to make the cash register ring!
Had the same thing happen in Snellville. Three workers helping the same customer and chewing the fat while myself and another 2 customers were at the counter. Wasn't until a disabled customer on a scooter yelled out "is there anyone ****ing working in here" did the three stooges eventually split. I gave up, grabbed a box of slugs and was approached by the manager as I was leaving and I told her about her staff. She walked over to them immediately after that conversation.

I like stores like GM because you can see and play with something before you buy it online. And occasionally they have something you need immediately or on sale. I suppose I'm one of the minority to not hate to see some of them close.

I was wondering if the McDonough store was one that was closing.
I have an old retired work buddy that works part time there.
he is a super nice, Christian guy and friendly and out going , he is also a worker.
he is really the only one that I talk to when I go down there to visit and chat with him.
Never really bought a lot there though as prices are very high indeed.
The McDonough store hasn't been open that long either, it was converted from a BJ's store actually.
I always thought that this would be an ideal spot for a large indoor range and attached gun shop , good location, easy to get to the expressway, large road sign, loading dock doors, plenty of floor space, good entrance open to the parking lot.
IF I was a millionaire that might be a thought to do.

Snellville is closing too.

The one in Snellville is closing too, hoping for some deals but I doubt they'll mark stuff down.
Has this been confirmed? If so that's got to be one of the quickest "Grand opening to closings" in big box history. Not surprised at all. Oh well, at least I got to get my picture taken with Troy Landry there.

wsb said that they were and a few articles online have said it would be included in the closing. It's no surprise to me honestly, there is hardly ever anyone shopping there.

I just wonder what that brand new building will be once they close.
