Home Security Cameras

With the ARLO it's way easier to just wait on it to email you the clip once you get the push notification on your phone. This only applies to first gen arlo stuff, but if you try pulling up the live feed right after you get a notification it's going to time and just spin it's wheels. Horrible.

I just ordered two of the Wyze cameras. I'm going to put my arlo system on ebay. Maybe here too. I'll let yall know how the Wyzecam's are.

I haven't experienced that problem. My only Arlo issue was one camera going wonky and having a red tint on the video capture. Customer service sent me a replacement. My high activity camera gets about 3 months of battery life and the one in the back has lasted now 6 months.

If you're able to run wires, you're much better to get a dvr/nvr and tvi/ip cameras. Wired is ALWAYS better if possible. Most DVR/NVR manufacturers provide a free ddns service for remote viewing. TVI is the best bang for the buck. they use standard camera wire but give you 1080 resolution and you can find them pretty cheap. I use Hikvision most of the time, they're not cheap but work really well.

The Zmodo cameras are wireless, 110 volt, and weather proof. I did mount them under the eves of the the house so they were not directly in the rain.

What do you guys use for you budget home security system?

I am looking for:
-Motion Activated recording
-User friendly
-Has an app/can be viewed from cell phone
-Wireless maybe?
-$300 range
i purchased the Blink 3 camera system a couple of weeks ago and I love it. Works with both IPhone and Android. No fees, Took about 15 minutes to install cameras and mounts and another 15 minutes to set them up on my phone. The only thing I don't like is that I can't monitor them on my Windows 10 PC but I talked to them and they say that's int the near future. Battery powered and included with package. no wires at all to fool with. Can purchase other accessories if you want.

I have a few IP cameras and the wired 4.5MP TVI's hooked up to my TVI supported DVR is the BEES KNEES!

You can just about read the tire size on a parked car 50' away using the standard zoom.

NV is aprox 4-5 hundred feet in a blackout area on one of the camera sights... looks like daylight.

Cameras ran about $250 each and the 16 channel TVI DVR was under $500...

It's put a few guys in the slammer already!

I think Arlo sucks, want to buy my two cameras?

They miss almost everything and the app is unreliable. I'm almost up to what I spent on the cameras buying CR123's! I'm actually going to ebay my cameras and base station soon and get the NEST outdoor cam.

Why are you buying CR123s when the ARLO batteries are rechargeable and last 4 months? I have an ARLO PRO setup and it gives me what I need with no monitoring cost for an indoor/outdoor completely wireless system. You have a free 7 day buffer for all recorded video. Anything I want to save I can download.

If you have a modern desktop computer, Blue Iris software hands down. Roll your own IP camera's or use IP Webcam on old smartphones if indoors. The IP Webcam software isn't great at video because it's basically streaming still images, but with Blue Iris it is great at motion detection.

Blue Iris rocks and works with damn near everything.

Another vote for Blue Iris if you have a computer to store the recordings and are the least bit tech savvy.

Question for you Night owl, Lorex, SimpliSafe and Arlo operators
You're lying in bed and you hear a noise outside.
How long does it take you to bring up the live feed? Assume you have 4-8 cameras and an iPhone

If the Blue iris app is active on my (Android) phone, it's there when I unlock. If not, unlock and it's a second to start the app from my home screen.

How about the iPhone option?
Assume I can't find the remote, it's on the wrong channel or I don't want to light up the room and give away my position or I don't have a tv in my room.
I assume multiple cameras will take time to scan via smartphone.
Perhaps that Ring light is a good option as it spots the area of activity.
With my Lorex I can either turn on the tv or just open the app on my phone and it shows instantly.
