mountainpass - VERY interesting. I read the info at the link and yup, it clearly says that "Persons in the military service of the state or of the United States" are excempted from needing a GWL to carry. I find it surprising that it does not have a stipulation in there about "while in the line of duty /on duty" or something similar.

Post edited to add - My personal *opinion* is that if you are in the military, and if it is at all possible, get a Georgia GWL and not rely on this excemption. (That comes from serving for 20 years on active duty.) However the law seems very clear: being military = no GWL required.

No dumb questions. vinhtvu2 is correct. So long as you can legally buy a gun you can have a gun anywhere in your vehicle.
