I agree with your assessment on the ballistics and recoil, although the flash is pretty intense. So, its going to blind you in a self defense situation at night.

as to your closing question, why isnt the 5.7 round more popular as a carry round?

1. Its expensive
2. Its hard to find
3. Its made by 2 manufacturers, see above.
4. It only works in ONE hand gun, the FN5.7
5. The 5.7 is expensive and hard to find, almost a unicorn.
6. It was completely sold out during the last ammo scarcity.
7. The 5.7 is big, not carry sized.

Is that enough reasons?

I've owned a FN FiveseveN and agree with all of the above. I traded it for a Rolex and now own a FNX tactical which I'll never trade/sell. Also wasn't the first fort hood shooter using a 5.7, spent 200+ rounds, wounded ~30, and ~13 died? Horrible tragedy, but hose numbers don't weigh in favor of the 5.7's lethality statistically.
