Interesting call from a Savannah detective

How would you feel about helping the cops find the killer, if the killer killed a child rapist
Exactly, and for all any of us know the gun could have been used but someone legitimately defending themselves and is now facing prosecution because he emptied the magazine or something stupid.

Just stay out of it unless you have an attorney.

The Miranda rights still exist, LEO's of any type no longer have to advise you of your right to be silent.

Please cite the court case(s) to that effect.

Miranda has two prongs. The first prong is custody. The second prong is interrogation. Both must be present for the Miranda Warning to apply.

If one is in custody and being interrogated, the LE absolutely, positively give the Miranda Warning, with a few exceptions, or everything is inadmissible in court.

If one is not in custody, the Miranda Warning is not applicable, and everything that is said is admissible.

If one is in custody but just can't keep their mouth shut, anything one says that isn't a result of questioning is admissible.

As far as the Miranda rights go.. it’s our word against the police’s word if they read it or not.. who you think the judge will listen to

Yep. That's why cops will talk to some one they plan on arresting. Get whatever info they can, and then arrest and mirandize.
