Man......I’ve got a ton of cleaning ahead of me before I call them mine :-). Gonna go try to figure out history and years first though.

you need to research the Chiefs Special. It is a flat latch for one, but it appears a bit smaller than the 49 which makes me wonder if its a "Baby" Chief built on the improved I frame. If so it could be quite scarce.

It is quite small. I absolutely love it. Thanks for the heads up. I’ll try to pull it out, take some notes on markings and such and better pics and post it over at the S&W forum and gun boards see if it turns anything up.
Some quick searches yielded nada for me. Perhaps I’ll peruse a bit more tonight with drink in hand .

On another topic.... found some black powder shells for the 1887 Winchester over at buffalo arms. Damn expensive about $2.50 a round but hey...i just have to shoot it once (or 2-3 times) then let my son have a go. All I’ve read is the BP ones kick WAY more than todays stuff.
