Is the 7mm Rem Mag the 40 S&W of the Hunting Round World?

Kind of like the 40 S&W it seems you either love or hate the 7mm Rem Mag. When I was growing up the "7 mag" was all that and then some. What happened? It doesn't seem to be as popular as it once was but I'm pretty sure it can still kill deer pretty well.

It's still a very popular round. More common out west though. It has great exterior and terminal ballistics and is one of the most popular extreme range hunting rounds.

I've killed more deer with a 300WM than anything else.

Exactly. It can be found at the local Walmart and has great ballistics but seems to fly under the radar.

It`s a fine rifle for anywhere. However, I went to a store to buy one about 20 years ago .While I was waiting on someone to wait on me, I started thumbing through a gun book lying on the counter. I compared the 7mag to the .270. Ballistics were so close that I bought the .270 instead.

Have a Steyr 7mag that is a great gun... Dusted a coyote at 275 yards... Killed several Bucks that dropped where they fell!

270 winchester for me 308 a close 2nd and then a 243

Exterior ballistics can be similar, but terminal ballistics are very different. The 270 doesn't come close in that area.
