Ok,here's the deal. Have a John Deere 19 horse Briggs/Stratton motor for 10 years now. Blew the head gasket 2 times on original motor, also Briggs/Stratton. Had it replaced with another motor with 20 hours on it for a killer price. It also has just blown the head gasket. Before this mower bought our first rider at sams club,Mtd brand. Had it 15 years, no problems what so ever. So what's up with keep blowing the head gasket ? HELP !!!! Any suggestion, greatly appreciated.

Poor design. The Intek series engine has a thin area around a portion of the head and block. After so many heat cycles, it blows. Theyre easy to replace though. Adjust your valves while you're in there.

Because JD mowers are junk with a very high price tag. Write John Deere a letter stating how dissatisfied you are with their poor craftsmanship.

Honda, never had a problem with them. B/S, Koehler, tech. All okay, but nothing beats a Honda, yea I know, jap engine and twice the cost.

Kawasaki has almost cornered the commercial mower market. They are good, but are prone to leakage as well on many models. I agree that Honda has the best small engines and wish they had more presence in the 15-22 hp mower market. It will be interesting to see what comes of Yamaha.
