long action short action

I was thinking about buying a new stock for Remington 700, how can you tell if is long or short action.

Here's a tid bit of info, not sure if it applies to Remingtons though, but some old Winchester model 70's are long action even though they were chambered in short action calibers. I have an old bull barrel M70 in 22-250 that's long action but it has a drop-in box inside the magazine to accommodate the shorter cartridges. I used to have a M70 Featherweight 243 and a bull barrel 243 the same way.

Your 30-06 is definitely a long action as previously stated though.
