Lube it up.

I bought a gallon of military LSA, and a quart of LSA with Teflon.

Mobil 1 synthetic grease for the Garands. LSA for everything else. Teflon for those special babies.

Frog lube is coconut oil. Lots of eco friendly lines are veggie based.

Ammonia does not dissolve the caustic salts used in old corrosive primers. Water dissolves salts, hence some old milsurp armorers had funnels to wash out the barrel when cleaning.

Did I neglect to slaughter anyone’s sacred cow?

Anyone use full synthetic motor oil? I think remember someone recommending this? Or maybe they mixed synthetic motor oil with something else to make a great gun lube?

Some big name folks, like Ken Hackathorn, run nothing but straight synthetic motor oil. Absolutely no reason why that won’t run just fine. I’ve trained with Ken quite a bit and I’ve never seen him have a stoppage or malfunction.

Sometimes I use grease, sometimes I use oil, something I use a combo of the two. Never had an issue with any of the methods. Slides, rotates, what have you.

Wet is better than dry. I’ve seen plenty of guns choke and puke because they were dirty and/or dry. I’ve never seen on malfunction because of too much lube in regular climates and conditions.

I’ve pulled a dipstick from the nearest vehicle and lubed with that.

I don’t shill for any particular brand. Every brand I’ve used personally has worked just fine. Nowadays I usually use Ed’s are that I mix myself, or zMAX Bolt Lube (because I was given a bunch of it......it does work just fine, though).

CLP, Gunfighter Gun Oil, SLIP, CherryBalmz, Lucas, etc., I’ve used most of them. With the exception of ones that have specific, distinctive instructions (like Frog Lube), I like them all and would use them again.

I would like to try one of the “thin” greases for my carry guns, but haven’t decided what to buy. For the most part, I’ve been lubing them with Mobil 1 synthetic automotive grease for nearly a decade with no issues.

At one time I used mineral oil...a old gunsmith told me it worked well and had very little smell so I used it on hunting guns:..not sure why I stopped
