RDS vs Irons

RDS are faster and more accurate for most, with practice.

At most self defense ranges, for a pistol, I don’t see the point in them.

Practice is only practice. Without the right mindset for real fighting no other aspect of training matters. JMO

I don’t have RDS on my carry guns. I use a prison holster and don’t have room for more accessories.

Am I the only one that finds myself in the position that I am starting to prefer good irons over a RDS on pistols?
Loooook...I am considered "highly" trained by federal standards. We use optic pistols. I have trained and trained and trained to adapt and im still working on it, BUT in the end I have heightened sights for iron pistol and still score a 96/100 on the qual (relatively). This is low light combined. I am by no means a master at the craft. That being said, I have coworkers that can keyhole with these d*mn rmr's at 25, 15, and support hand with rapid reengagement. It's stupid fast and accurate and I feel stupid because I'm working it in my 40's. Rifles...I'm spot on with a red dot 50-600 (all day). Anyone that says irons because they dont want/ can't adapt, they'll be picked off in a one on one. I see it, I know it, I promise it. The term force multiplier is real and dont think otherwise. Don't even start with multiple engagements. It dominates.

I will never be considered "highly" anything and while I have shot a gun a time or two, I will never be John wick. With that said, I just want to be clear that I am abundantly aware that RDS changed the game for accurate shooting from folks with poor fundamentals and took those with great fundamentals to a level that is often superhero-esk. This does not however change that i find it more enjoyable to shoot irons on some of my pistols. I find that shooting irons and learning how the gun needs to be handled for snappy, almost gunslinger style point and shooting is a whole new challenge level for me and even though I can be immensely more precise with an RDS....been there, done that....I really just shoot for fun nowadays and an RDS is not always the most fun.

That's good man. Keep it up. Doesn't sound efficient but it's what you like and that's what matters. Fundamentals are always the most important. However, if I can use a surgical blade with no fail (with proper training) to make an incision for a cricotomy rather than a butter knife with one eye...to each their own.
