They did perform admirably. Unless they were former military odds are good they were never in a situation like that before.

No but he could easily be tried under the UCMJ as an "Enemy Combatant" and swept away to some floating hell somewhere. No due process, no miranda rights.....

Most definitely suicide by cop, happens all the time. If he wanted them dead he would have ambushed them while they were still sitting in their car and made quick work of them, or just aimed down sights and placed 2 shots on each of them.

the FL is pretty bad ass but they are still french......So if you want a rifle that has only been dropped once.

Don't sweat it man....I never was taught that one either. Learned about it years after I got out....ironic since you would think you would want officers to know where the type of warfare they are experiencing originated from.
