suggestion for backpacking long gun

I wouldn't shoot at a deer with a 9mm ever!

You're going to shoot at a deer at 200 yards it would be sportsman like to use a rifle caliber.

I've been thinking bout getting a sub2k, but for the purposes discussed here I'm not sure it would be beneficial. I'm still trying to figure it all out. Like to have a carbine/pistol match tho.

100 yards is long shot in Georgia. You would need to use ambush tactics, i.e., shoot down from a tree along a game trail.

Was thinking so too. Just adds some challenges.

you can always look into a Savage 42 style rifle. small rifle caliber on top and shotgun barrel below. single shot.

Kel Tec SU16C, uses AR mags & ammo and can be fired in folded position, very light and accurate

su-16c has full length barrel. the upside is that you can fire folded. uses standard at mags and loves steel case

Seems Uncle Sam answered this question in the 60"s, but I'd prefer an M4 with a pencil barrel.

Are we talking a super long time where we would be scavenging ammo, or just a few weeks? If it's just a few weeks not much ammo can easily last he whole time. I will give my thoughts once I figure out if I'm gonna have to look for ammo later on, like end of the world scenario.

i would go with a savage model 24. i have one in .222 over 20 gauge that I would probably prefer. Or i could go with a .22 over 20 gauge, a .22 mag over .410 or one of my 22lr over .410. between the rifle, and birdshot, buckshot and slugs it is a pretty capable woods gun. I would not prefer it for any sort of defense though since its a break action double barrel.
