When I built mine you had to remove the pistol grip and put on shockwave grip before swapping the barrels, otherwise you have made an NFA item for a little while.

That's also why both Mossberg and Shockwave make such a big deal about not modifying the gun. It would be very easy to turn it into an NFA item accidentally.

It's really hilarious that with all the pages and pages of legal jargon around the NFA, GCA and other inane gun laws, they did nothing to stop people from buying a short barreled shotgun (OK.. "firearm") or short barreled rifle (AR/AK pistol with a brace) right off the shelf.
