Update: Got the mount back! Big deer hit. Wish me luck!

Agreed. Good plan.

It stopped raining here a couple hours ago. I have no idea what its like in your hunting area but if the rain is finished you may find a decent blood trail, despite the poor exit wound. Nothing but good thoughts man. I wish I could be more help. I love this stuff!

I love it as long as I find him. If I don't it will haunt me for the rest of my life.

Hate tracking when it's my shot, but I enjoy the challenge of trying to help someone else track theirs down. It's always a great learning experience!
With all the rain, I'm not sure how much of a blood trail there will be. I never saw the exit side, so I don't know what that looks like, but there was some blood (not a ton) running down the entrance side. I might have seen him cough up blood once, but I'm not sure of that at all.

I'm also the person that others call when they need tracking help, so I know exactly what you are talking about. On their deer it's great fun. On mine it's nerve racking.

I've got similar experience but I got lucky, mine ran 20 yards, broke the arrow while running and died right there! Still have the broadhead stuck in the off shoulder!

With the rain thinning the blood trail and matting down any leaves he might have kicked up or turned over it'll be a challenge. Personally, it sounds like you are making the right call by waiting.
