Who Plays a Musical Instrument?

For fun or did you go to school?
For fun. My music endeavor started when I was really young. My mother played piano, and she taught me a bit of theory to include reading music. I'm not formally trained. As a matter of fact, I taught myself most of what I know through hard practice as far as my ability to play guitar.

You have to know a bit of theory to make sense of what you're playing and to be able to improvise within they key of the music. Chord formation, individual notes and their places within the scale of your chosen key, the differences between majors and minors and all that good stuff have to come together to be an effective musician. Being able to read music and recognize where everything is on a bar staff helps that. Time signatures, key notations, ritards, codas, crescendos, decrescendos, and all the other notation besides the notes themselves go along with that too.

But you know all that as well as I do. :)
