I wonder how the wind behaves in those stadiums. I assume closed top ones are calm but open top might have some odd behavior.
Also shooting at crazy angles like that requires you to dial for the adjusted distance but hold wind and movement for the full distance but I assume they have laser...
So here is where my confusion lies. I have been to Talladega CMP but I have never heard of Anniston. OP titles this thread as Anniston CMP:
"I heard something terrible-- that they won't let you shoot the 600 yard targets anymore without some 10-shot "qualification" per gun, at 100 then 200 then...
Well I am still confused. Assuming that when OP said Anniston CMP they actually meant Talladega CMP and that there is not actually 2 different 600 yard ranges with Kongsberg targets then I can say I was there on Nov 24th. I went to the 100 yard range to zero and then went to the 600 yard range...
I am sure this is an unpopular opinion but you can learn most anything from forums and youtube videos. It can be hard to self diagnose issues so then I would say take a class. Books are basically out of date forums, just make sure you get your info from multiple sources and try not to take what...
Everything is a trade-off. Barrel Life, Recoil, Drop, Wind Drift, Bullet Availability, Brass Availability, Factory Ammo Cost, Factory Ammo Options, Factory Ammo Availability, Factory Rifle Options, Factory Rifle Availability, Barrel Twist Rate per Caliber Options, etc etc.
Can my 223 make it...
While the ATN and SIG BDX (https://www.sigsauer.com/products/electro-optics/bdx/) seem like they are cutting edge and the new best thing, they are not. At least not at this point in time. Competitive PRS shooters are going with Nightforce ATACR, S&B PM II, Kahles 624i, Vortex Razor/AMG etc...
What is your use for this optic going to be? Practical FFP scope or F Class SFP scope?
You might be able to find a used Vortex Golden Eagle or sightron siii 10-50x60 below 900 (i recently sold a golden eagle for 900), these would be your f class SFP scope choices.
For practical scopes, you...
I prefer Talladega, those fancy electronic targets help you learn a lot, you can call your shot and see it on the monitor to see if you are correct. Helps with learning wind and there is no pit duty or having to drive down range to see how you did.
Not enough to be off the paper. I don't even check my environmentals, but I shoot at Talladega which has unlimited sighters for the first string at 300 and the first string at 600. RBGC does normal rules which I believe is 2 sighters and they do 3 strings at 600 so he won't get a chance to get...
What you really need to know for an accurate value:
Environmentals during the time of zeroing the rifle.
actual MV vs temperature.
Bullet BC.
Current Environments.
Scope tracking error.
I used Hornady BTSP 100gr with .386 G1, in a 1 in 9 twist barrel. I set the zero environmentals to be 90...
I apologize if this is in the wrong section, there was no checkbox in the classifieds for wanting to buy... only to sell or trade.
PM me if you have one and are willing to sell (Barrel will be replaced which is why I mention 223 bolt face and not specifically 223 rem chambering).
