Boot71 I started with a WASR 10 (middle rifle) and the AK sickness grew quickly. The next thing I knew I was sending pictures of my dong to strangers on the interweb.

Seriously... pick up a Wasr 10, trick it out like you like it and shoot the crap out of it. Rinse repeat with other variants if you like, but beware of Bakelitis...

We've already established that I have limited knowledge of the AK style platform. Y'all please don't make me Google "AK dong".

It's that ugly crooked piece of wood that hangs down from the front wood hand guard. Every time I see one it reminds me of a bunch nasty looking smelly prayer rug types waving them around and firing into the air. So no dongs for me please.

Or a sar 1! Somehow both becoming cheaper than wasr 10s... I think folks discrediting the mak90s due to no side rail for optics. Optics? Who needs optics?

I'm an AK guy, love the platform and the cartridge. Start with a WASR, it will do everything you want it to do and then some. I wouldn't even get to wrapped up in making sure the rivets are perfect and the gun in perfect, its an AK and will run regardless. Don't expect it do behave and manipulate like your AR because it will not. The edges and finish will be rough as will the furniture. If/when you are ready to upgrade, snatch up an arsenal and be done. Hope this helps.

Everyone knows AK optics are supposed to go on an Ultimak gas tube rail. I think the often unthreaded muzzle harms the MAK90s popularity, I couldn't find anyone local thread mine when I had one.
