Not putting back enough Bar-B-Q sauce. When all the deer, squirrels and hogs are gone they’ll still be a few folks around and it’ll help make the menu transition a bit tastier.

Just my 2c.

Three things. (1) Reliable and capable friends and family (2) The ability to increase your numbers quickly with more reliable and capable friends from the core friends and family. (3) Access to large tracts of flat and forested land. Firearms and ammunition go without saying as do tools, long term food supplies and water.

Climbing stairs and jogging for miles without full fatigue is not as important, unless the individual becomes a liability. If the "enemy" can get close enough to shoot you it doesn't matter whether you can press your body weight or not. What's important is building a new "community" with family and friends and setting up some kind of fortification that can be defended. The ability to roam the land for food, supplies etc. and then return to a relatively safe haven will be of paramount importance. This is how the European Monarchies built their empires, starting off as a core unit of trusted, like minded individuals and building their numbers until they became the "baddest gang" on the block.

Most groups will consist of families which include seniors and children, so building a defensible structure is probably the most important thing for survival. Second, and also important, is selecting leaders that bring wisdom and skills to the unit and who's words are accepted by all. The ability to question decisions should not be overlooked but the decisions of the elected need to be final.

Very solid points, I agree 100%.

not remembering you need a bb gun and that EVERY bird is edible.
SHTF you are gonna have rotted deer or some jerky and some rotted deer. but a nice 760 pumpmaster and 100,000 bbs = a lot of little birdies. easy to get close to,easy to shoot, easy to cook, and easy to eat all in one sitting.

thinking you are gonna video game survive. the last think you want is conflict. its real easy to die when you are fighting, its much easier to survive when no one knows you are surviving..

no doubt, 10s of thousands of starving people will totally respect your property rights in the absence of government and the animals will all run to your land for safe haven. it doesn't matter how many people you have to defend your land, eventually a bigger crowd will take what you have. that is the fact of grid down.
People will quickly turn into a plague of locusts stripping the land as they move along.
