EMP and electronic gun safes...

I have a combination safe with the combination stamped into the safe door right above the dial. Boom, quick entry AND nuclear blast proof.
 
Interesting question.

My guess is that an EMP would fry hell out of the keypad's circuits. I would bet there are some chips in there.
 
I started wondering the same thing after borrowing a book from a coworker titled "One second after"... Good book by the way.

From an engineering stand point, I don't think circuits off the grid or not otherwise powered at the time of an EMP blast would be affected... So take the batteries out of the electronic lock and you should be fine. Having said that, I feel an email to Granite Safe Co.'s customer service coming on.
