If you are going to shoot them clean them, if for historical items get them into a climate controlled area, and do not clean them you want the natural aging on them...

just a simple suggestion...
 
Putting them in s tumbler is not a good idea for not only the obvious reason but I've heard that it can break down the powder into finer powder thus making it quicker burning. I don't know if this is true but sounds plausible.
