If you are going to shoot them clean them, if for historical items get them into a climate controlled area, and do not clean them you want the natural aging on them...

If you put it in a gun and shoot it, it will save you a lot of work cleaning it.

But if you insist on cleaning it, the best option is one of SchmittZoid handy-dandy cleaning cloths.

Putting them in s tumbler is not a good idea for not only the obvious reason but I've heard that it can break down the powder into finer powder thus making it quicker burning. I don't know if this is true but sounds plausible.
