First time IDPA...

The GADPA matches are run under the same rules as IDPA. The main reason they broke away from IDPA was to allow shooters to shoot matches without having to be a member of IDPA and paying the membership fees. Also, they don't care about power factor on the local level. On a ranked match, yes, you will have to chronograph your firearm and meet power factor.

If at a GADPA match, ask for Sal or Ken. They are the most experienced shooters there.

I tried it for about 6 months years ago. It was IDPA at the time.

I enjoyed it for the most part but the "instructor" guy that was running the show was too interested in correcting my grip. It was like he just couldn't get over it. My grip was taught to me by my Grandfather who was and Army Firearms Instructor during WW2. I have been shooting my pistol that way my whole life. I'm not going to change it. Yes, even if it makes me "better". I'm just simply not THAT interested in being better then, thanks!

I thanked him each time he tried to correct me, then I immediately held my pistol the way I like and ignored him. He just couldn't let it go. I really wasn't offended at all and I appreciated the guys attempt to make me better but, sometimes the answer is simply NO!

Then when it was his turn to shoot he would always get one shot off with his 1911 before it would break down on him every single time. I just left and never bothered going back.

Hey Pistol Pete,

I was just in that Stoddards today. One of the guys at the counter said it would be starting in a few weeks as they still have so much going on with organization after opening. I wouldn't be able to make it tomorrow but Wednesdays would be a great day in general and its not too far so I will definitely check it out. Let me know if you guys get together tomorrow.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info! I was wondering about the power factor....I will be shooting 1911s to start as they are the pistols I'm most proficient with.

Sounds like that guy messed up your experience. If that guy is there and his 1911 is still failing, I will critique him on his firearm choice.

If you want to try IDPA, South River Gun Club has monthly matches. This is an outdoor range. You can look it up on their website for the schedule and contact information.

This, gear ranges, safe bays lots of top notch shooters to lean from, while watching. Your qualifier and initial match should pro-bono the first time. Addicted quick and a great range that makes it all the easier. Volunteer for tasks while you are there and get to meet the folk. Their website has the schedule.

If you like to shoot you will enjoy the friendly competition. There is also a shoot at Harrellson County Youth Range fourth Saturday of every month. This is an outdoor shoot so dress according to weather.

I love shooting outdoors. That is a bit of a haul but I go to Villa Rica/Temple to visit family, visit GA Arms, and shoot so I might check it out sometime. Thanks.

I had this confused with the range way up in North Georiga. This actually isn't too far. Thanks!

This place sounds promising. What is a gear range?

I am glad that I saw this. I have been wanting to start shooting a few friendly, local competitions. That location is perfect for me, since in work in Chamblee and live in Midtown. I just need to get some extra gear for my S&W 5906.
