Fraudulent charged on my BofA debit card.

In Canada they bring a portable scanner to your table so you never lose sight of your card. I'm sure that cuts down on some scams.

I don't think it's so much skimmers as it is hackers stealing info online....I'm no computer genius, but I've seen some people do some mind blowing things. My brothers old roomate was a cyber crimes cop and he showed me this little deal he had that he could plug into a computer and it pulled every .jpg, .mov, ect file you've ever had on your computer....even the "deleted" ones.....he busted a college professor at OSU for child porn with that thing.

In the past 5 years I bet we have had our cards (all types of banks) compromised at least 12-15 times. Seems to happen every couple of months now days. Have no idea where it is getting skimmed but it happened a lot in Colorado. Already happened to us in the 5 months we've been in Georgia. Now we do use our cards for everything (cash back cards) so they get a lot of use and we do a lot of online purchases.

There's truth to that. The plug in he used isn't too sophisticated, but useful ! There used to be a utility in DOS which would physically overwrite deleted files so they couldn't be retrieved. In the old days a file was deleted by removing it's "index", the actual file was still on the disk, so easy to get back. not sure about nowadays, but I suspect it's not much different.

There's still enough theft by skimmers for it to be a real problem.

Agreed. I've donated/sold computers over the years, which I honestly don't like to do because of that. If I do, I remove the hard drive and sell it for a few dollars cheaper. Better piece of mind. It's crazy the amount of person info we have on our devices....myself included.

You should really full format any drive before letting it go, or, (given the price nowadays), just physically trash it.

45acp makes nice, neat holes in hard drives. Somewhat challenging on laptop drives, but a steady hand will do it.

My debit card was used fraudently online with surprising regularity when I still banked with BofA. I still shop all the same places I used too during that time and almost always use my debit or cc and have had zero issues since switching to Navy Federal years ago. I absolutely 100% believe BofA was the biggest reason for the fraudulent charges on my cards of theirs. It cant be a coincidence that this is something I hear about frequently from BofA customers I talk to. I'm sure to credit unions too, but I dont hear about nearly as much as I do with banks, especially BofA. I will say I never had any issue getting my money back from BofA, but they seem to have plenty of experience with that.

Someone just charged $244 on my debit card with Nike.com. I've never purchased anything from Nike.com. Bank of America was very nice and canceled/reissued my card, but this is the 7th time since 2016. I confirmed that with the guy at BofA. Am I the only one this is happening too and this frequently? I would understand once and a while, but 7 times in 2 years??

Honestly, I use mine everywhere. I think security is far behind what the crooks are able to do....hell in the last year, I've seen Best Buy, Target, BofA, even some of the credit reporting agencies getting hacked. They could have gotten my info from a hell of a lot of sources, not just a gas station.
Same here. I've only had to get a new card twice. Once because the card maker had a block of card numbers stolen, once because of some strange behavior concerning my card. Debit then credit right back. Bank called me and told about it and then asked me what I wanted to do. I pay all my bills online but, I do not store passwords on my computers. I enter the password every time. I have 2 passwords that I use for everything, neither have been hacked in more than 20 years since I started using them.
