Gun parts question

Before I get myself into trouble, I have a gun that the slide needs to be refinished on, for the cost of refinishing I can get another slide cheaper, can I just swap slides out from another of the same model or is that a no-no?

When I bought a used glock that had the slide cracked I took it to glock and they gave me a new slide with a different serial number. I'd say they wouldn't do it if it was illegal

Does the slide have a serial number on it? The only gun I have seen that has a serialized slide is a Sig Mosquito. It has two serial numbers, one on the barrel and one on the slide.

I dont know what the law is if the slide is serialized and you replace the slide. I believe the frame serial # is the gun's serial number and everything else is not tracked by serial number/ATF/Police.

If the slide isnt serialized, I wouldnt worry about it.

Thanks guys, its a ruger p95, i havent seen a serial on the slide, i plan to reuse the barrel.

People replace parts all the time with new ones... so I would think you are ok....

Yeah, Ruger wants me to send it to them to do it, for 299.99 plus shipping, Lol, I could get a whole new gun for that, so Im just gonna sell it.

The frame is the "gun". Everything else is just parts, serials or not.

I second what Madrox said......... If you can buy it online and you don't need a FFL then it's NOT considered the gun....
