If a dog lunges at me like that one did at that cop I'ma shoot it too. Anybody don't want thier dog shot needs to either keep it locked up or make damn sure it knows better than to lunge.

Hooray for you, you get to kill something. I bet they had pepper and a taser.

But hey, you get to show what an animal you are by taking a life.

Big ****ing man.

I saw numerous people doing the same thing, videoing the officers and yelling at the police. I don't know why the officers arrested the guy but if it was simplely for video and yelling there would have been many more arrests.I too like dogs more than most people, and sometimes feel that dogs are shot too soon when there are other ways to deal with them. But it looks like there were two separate attempts to calm the dog and not just shot at first sight.

I assume you are LEO, and if so, if you were going to cuff a person who is carrying a weapon, wouldn't you first secure the weapon, hopefully in a peaceful manner? Shouldn't the officers have first approached the man and made sure the dog was secure before arresting him, assuming he was still cooperative? There is so much wrong in that video I can't imagine anyone, LEO or not, defending the actions of those officers. My apologies for being harsh, but causing the situation that led to the shooting of the dog really made me angry and sick. I just can't understand how anyone could defend such poor behavior from a trained police officer.

Damn right I'll take a life. If a life is to be "sacred" it needs to start being held sacred by those responsible for it. In this case the dog owner. Clearly he didn't care or didn't think so the dog got upset and loose. His fault it got shot. And if the onwer of a dog that attacks me doesn't like his dog getting shot he can always bow up and get shot right beside it. ****ing morons.

I would hope you are not a LEO with that attitude.

I have no comment on the situation. I wasn't there. But when the dog lunged all choice went right out the window and the dog crossed over into being a real and immediate threat. Any threat has to be neutralized. In MY case, I carry a gun. I don't have batmans utility belt of options and so my resposes are either hands, knife, or gun. With a large, angry dog I'm not going to let it maul me a while, whilest I try to placate, beat or stab it, I'm going to blow it's ****ing head off. If that hurts your witty bitty feelings, grow a pair and get over it.

Yeah, I can see where being LEO means you have to be more tolerant of being mauled than ordinary citizens. Well, may you sleep better knowing that I am NOT a cop...I really don't have the patience to put up with ****heads, scumbags and those who think a dogs right to chew on you trumps your right to shoot a dog trying to chew on you.

The point I am making is not that the dog attacked, but that the officers created the environment that caused the dog to attack. An ounce of prevention...................

if the dumb ass with the dog had stayed in his car and not instigate the situation he would not have gone to jail and his dog would not have taken a dirt nap. I know some cops let the job go to their heads but to say they should not make it home from their next shift is plain stupid and saying that takes someone that has their head up their ass.

So the dog owner had been arrested before and has a pending lawsuit. Supposedly he had the radio turned way up and LEO couldn't hear. However when I first saw the video I couldn't hear any music (or didn't even notice it) and only heard 2 guys talking. I assume he came over to record the police since he has a case pending already, just incase. Did he try to "antagonize" the LEOs with his radio? Maybe, probably, but was an "obstruction" arrest really worth all the bad press this is gonna generate. They could have just escorted him to the car and made him leave the area. Also the Chief's explanation about protecting the dog owner because he was cuffed is BS.

So it was a dick swinging contest between the dog owner with his music and the LEOs with arrest powers. Ended badly for everyone. BUT as I stated before if you check the Hawthorne PD they have a sketchy history already.

I still hold my position that LEO need to be held to a higher standard than the average person and they need to exercise good judgment above and beyond. I don't think they did here.
