Im pretty sure im about to start an ODT fire lol...

Sorry to hear that! I researched the ballistics myself when I owned it and while most were certainly interesting I just didn't find it a fun pistol to own, and would prefer 9mm or 45 for personal defense.

I prefer 9mm as well. For every day carry. The ammo is cheaper. When I want to reduce weight I choose the five seven . If I have to leave town I choose the 5.7. So it has it's own applications

Yeah right, if that were the case everyone on here would have FA everything. They're banned since 86

If it was made prior to that 1986 date you can pay a tax stamp of $200 and own it on a ATF Form 4. Only exception are registered sears that were made prior to 1986 and can be installed in MP5/HK91/HK53 sear hosts:) The hosts can be made after 86 and the registered sear can be installed and registered in the caliber of the host for a $200 tax stamp.

Very interesting stuff. That's all news to me lol. I know about cans but not so much about machine guns.

BTW 5.7x28mm was designed by FNH to replace the 9mm PDW/MP5 dominated world. Comparing the PS90 to the AR-15 is like comparing an M&P 9m pistol to a .45 caliber 1911. Head-to-head against 9mm, however, the 5.7x28mm round offers 50 percent more “impact energy”-thanks to increased velocity (2300 fps vs. 1200 fps). Yes but-thanks to 5.7x28mm round’s lower mass, penetration is an “issue.” Or not, if you’re looking for a round that won’t over-penetrate in, say, a domestic environment. Anyway, the 5.7x28mm round is designed to tumble upon impact, creating a larger wound channel.

In theory... unfortunately the energy has less to do with stopping a threat than the wound channel.
And it does not apparently tumble consistently & does, with some loadings overpenetrate.

As "Ngcsugrad09" stated, what few agencies tried it have went back to more traditional platforms & loadings.

It has potential but isn't fully evolved yet.

Like the north Hollywood shooters he was a crappy shot thank God . I have never shot a human being or any living thing with a 5.7 but I know someone who used a 5.7 to protect himself from a charging pit bull. One shot of ss198 and the threat was stopped. A one handed shot at that. Police shoot dogs all the time with the .40. Sometimes multiple times to stop the dog.

There are videos online that show what it can do to ballistics gel and raw meat. I was impressed with the results. When any caliber shot placement is always key. With good shot placement the 5.7 is more than capable of stopping just about any threat . It just shines when in use against armored targets which is what it was designed for

I discourage any generalizations relating to any rounds stopping capability based on the data from a single instance.

There are cases where a C.O.M. shot from a 12 ga. was ineffective and others where a single .22 short to the chest was effective.
The second part of your post bears more significance to me than the single shot to the dog.... except the part about it being able to "just about stop any threat."
But I think I know what you meant.

With any caliber , good shot placement will almost always stop a threat . That is what I was getting at. I think we can all agree that there are not enough real life instances to really base a for sure opinion. From the research I have seen I'm happy with the round. Ymmv.

The "smiley face" doesn't work when I post from my phone.
