In The Market For A New Truck...

I went through this exact process last summer and ended up purchasing a 2018 F150 5.0 4x4.
I feel I have every brand a fair shake as I have no brand loyalty on vehicles. The following were my thoughts.

Titan - I personally don't care for the styling, poor resale, bad gas mileage with 5.6 and underpowered.

Tundra - Great truck with excellent resale, but abysmal gas mileage

Chevy - 5.3 is way underpowered.. 6.2 only available in high priced trims.. that killed it for me.

Dodge - this was my runner up. I like the way they look. Gas mileage is okay. Good power.

Ford - the straw that broke the camels back was interior room. I have the crew cab and is has a foot more leg room than every other 1500. The 5.0 engine is very strong. This truck gets every other truck 0-60 & 1/4 mile except for the ecoboost and its very very close to the 6.2 chevy in real world numbers. From what I see the 5.0 dynos 330 to 340 who to the ground stock. The 2018 got about 40 more hp and is the first year of the 10 speed and 5.0 engine. Overall I am very happy with it. The only thing I am unhappy with are the shocks. Ford cheaper out here and as a result the truck has flying mattress syndrome. Bilstein 5100 replacements are on my list.

Hope this helps

What truck out there is the most durable? I have always had Toyotas for this reason. I haven't owned a daily driver truck in 10 years on a couple of "hunting trucks"

What model/make is the best value in a used truck? Daddy is due for a new ride.

2016 F150XLT here. Bought it new from Akins Ford. Awesome price. Eco boost engine, 20-25mpg, depending on how I drive it.
78,000miles, not one issue.only thing I would like is a little bigger bed

Best used value is Ram. They depreciate more than any other truck and you can get a great deal on them.

I will add that I have the 5.0, 10 speed, 4x4, crew cab, and 3.73 gears. My average gas mileage for city and hwy is 19mpg. I'm extremely happy with that number considering it's a 400hp vehicle with the drag coefficient of a brick.. steady hwy at 70mph I get 21.. this is also with BFG KO2 tires in 265/70R17. These are quite a bit heavier than the stock tire.

Dodge had a rough run in the late 90s and early 2000s, but Ram has come a long way in the last few years. The ZF 8 speed is a great trans, and both the hemi and penta star are good engines. You can pick up a 2018 crew cab 4wd for around 30k with low miles and plenty of warranty left. I'm biased though, my last 3 Rams have been great trucks. Our 2014 crew with the pentastar has 115000 miles with no issues and averages 22mpg.

I'll never own a ram again, and chevy can kiss my ass after that stunt last year, toyota doesnt know how to spell mpg.

My f 1 fitty 4x4 5.0 coyote is the best vehicle I've owned, and thats saying something.
