Oh no, bad idea. If you break off that part of the root it could cause Stone Mountain to roll over on its side and smash the carvings. Best to leave nature along. That stuff works great sometimes depending on the rock density. If it truly is some of the stone mtn vein that’s some really hard rock... sometimes it’s hard to even break it with explosives and 3.5” holes. Austell has SUPER hard rock too.
I’m actually shooting some of the stone mtn vein currently down in loganville.
When they blast at the Douglasville quarry everything in the house shifts and I'm pretty sure it's more than an inch or two. I gave up rehanging pictures. Also, as long as you stay within the law your good on vibrations. 2” or less of vibration when you shoot is the law, We like to stay around 1 or less though just to stay on the safe side. But in all honesty we could shoot and have 5” of vibrations and it all be peachy. 4” used to be the law and homeowners were complaining and they shrunk it down to 2”. We shot one 50 feet off a house with an in ground pool last year and got a 0.1 vibration reading.
..I need to reclaim part of the slope to grade the landscape away from the buildings
Did you even look at the picture? The house is downhill from the road. The property next door is uphill from my house. Are you having a problem with water? Probably cheaper and easier to put in a good drain system.

and as opposed to gaining yard space for a dog run. I would gain unusable yard space at a higher altitude?I think it would be easier to put a retaining wall in along the driveway, and slope the ground behind the wall away from the buildings. Plus french drains to help the wall.

Call about it. Are you closer than 750’ to the quarry? When they blast at the Douglasville quarry everything in the house shifts and I'm pretty sure it's more than an inch or two. I gave up rehanging pictures.
