Isn't it illegal in GA to record a convo w/o the other person's consent?

Georgia—like a majority of the states—has a “single-party consent” law when it comes to recording conversations. What this means is that one person on a call can record the conversation without the agreement of the other. This can be used to protect journalists who conduct phone interviews.

Take the bull by the horns. Do it in text. Explain plainly that you've decided to keep the dog and you'd like to reimburse her for her kind financial assistance. Ask for her paypal. Then if she wants to get nasty, at least you'll know where you stand.

A dog is property except in California where a dog can vote. You own the dog it appears. I would remove the person from contact with you and the dog.

IMHO I'd tell her to come get her dog, or to give you signed document that releases all of her rights. This could turn into a very expensive mess if she has deep pockets. It may be the best dog in the world, but there are lots of good dogs in shelters getting put down every day.

Possession is 9/10th's of the law. You are in possession of the animal. Offer to reimburse the woman and take care of the dog going forward. Simply because she "gifted" money for care of the dog doesn't give her legal claim to it.

Sounds like a messy civil matter. If y’all came to an agreement the police should not be involved because it is now civil. You haven’t violated state law because you attempted to find rightful owner of the dog.

I can prove this is not the case. There are too many witnesses that would prove this; time stamps; photo's ect.
