Long range shooting

Also, with the .308 win you want a 1:10 twist to stabilize heavy bullets. I have a custom bighorn TL3 with a 1:10 that loves the heavies. I shot the 175 factory Berger ammo into .5 MOA pretty easily. Determine Cartridge you want to shoot, narrow down specific bullets, and build your barrel around those bullets. The nice thing about the 1:10 is that its pretty versatile. I can shoot the 150s pretty easily as well even though its not optimal with the lower BCs.

The .308 is a classic but the 6.5s and 6mms are running away with the long range shooting. Look at the .243 win, .260 remington, 6.5CM, 6CM, 6x47 and 6.5x47 Lapua, 6BR, 6Dasher, 6XC...If you want 1000 yard precision with slower rates of fire there the 6.5 SUAM, 6.5SS, 6.5PRC, and 6.5x284. Youll start running into barrel life issues though with those round. At least with the .243 and 6CM youll be right around 1500-1800 rds before you need a new barrel. The .308 can be as high 5000 rds before a noticable change in barrel life. Either way, its a new build and a new form of shooting, so you'll be happy either way.
