I remember how shaken I was when you started this thread. I have gotten closer to my sons after some time apart and pray that I don't outlive them.
Someone asked me about losing my mom 20 years ago, if the pain ever goes away. I said that for a long time after she lost her fight with cancer that I would pick up the phone to call her, to talk about her grandchildren or what I had planted in the garden and realize she wasn't going to answer. And that made me sad. Not too many years ago I realized I couldn't remember the last time I picked up the phone to call her. And that made me more sad.
The pain hasn't gone away, it's just a different kind.
Thinking about you today brother.
