FLLs did good work, not at fault, I bought this some time ago for research then going to sell, came out listed as stolen.

Whatever you do I'd get it out of my possession ASAP. Either turn it back in to the FFL and let them deal with it and hopefully issue you a refund and ALSO make a copy of the paperwork and hand it to the police so they know you turned it over to your FFL. Either that or just turn it over to the police.
If it was involved in a theft it may have been associated with other crimes. May have a body on it and that isn't something you should mess with.

You are on the right end of it - so it seems. It sux but hopefully it does get back to the original owner and no major crimes we’re committed with it.
I would hate to get told one of my favorites was used to murder or assault someone - of course i would not want it back - I wouldn’t think

what makes you think the owner will get it back??
ive heard of cases where folks never got them back from evidence or whatever and others where the local cops went out of their way to return the stolen property
