Old School S&W Revolvers.....lots of pictures

The grip safety on the 40 can be pinned down. Make sure the gun is unloaded. Remove the stocks, there is a hole in the front part of the safety and in the grip frame that line up when the safety is engaged. The pin is in the frame, look for it.

Very nice revolvers, but you are older than those guns. Bangor Punta owned S&W from the mid 1960’s to the mid 1980’s, Your boxes are so marked. The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson lists DOM serial number ranges which could tell you when each was produced. A factory letter (quite costly) would give a shipping date and name of who or where it was shipped to.

Beautiful examples of new in the box guns. A quick glance at the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson gives the following serial number info:

Model 40 falls in the 1971 to 74 range
Model 60 falls in the 1974 to 77 range
Model 66 from 1964.

Great information from both of you guys!!

Thanks for the info and insight. We had always assumed that we "knew" when they were bought, because of the job that my relative held. Now I have a much clearer picture.

Thank you,

Jerry
