PSA: B&B charcoal SUCKS.

That takes all the fun out of it for me. I like the chair time I have around the grill. It's about the only downtime I have it seems.
Seems the older I get, the more I have to do, and less time to do it.

Used to get a lot more done, and found time to stay out til 3-4 every night.

Looks like there is an Ace Hardware about 15 mins from me that shows they carry Meathead. I’m going to give that stuff a shot.
Let me know if it's worth me trying it. I ran out of Kingsford for my webber and grabbed a bag of lump for the komodo. I use the chimney most of the time but when using wood I used the thing that looks like an oven element.

I'm getting some in the next day or so. Ill post up! (If it sucks it's Horsehat Horsehat fault)

Watched a couple of videos. Doesn't look messy. Just a covered metal bucket with a hole for outgassing.

I'm often processing firewood and burning brush piles. Figure I would take some oak scraps, put 'em in a bucket with a cover, and stick it in a burn pile. Just a byproduct of something I'm already doing.

Here's my first batch. It worked. Was splitting wood. Threw the small scraps into a 6 gallon galvanized pail. Had a burn pile going nearby, stuck the pail in the burn pile. Pail was still outgassing until I went in to watch football. Took the pail out after 5 hours and set it aside to cool. Looked in two hours later...charcoal. Easy. If I do it again, I'll let it cook for one more hour. A couple of big pieces were slightly underdone. They'll still work for the grill.
