Body of Water: Etowah

Report Title: River Stripers

Date Fished: 8-15-14

Water Temperature: chilly

Water Clarity: stanied

Weather Conditions: Partly sunny

Report: Okuma Steve and I decided to take his river boat to the Etowah river (cartersville) to some striper fishing. Until today I have never been in a "real" river boat before, I have to say, that was a blast! That boat is like 4 wheel drive on the water. We went over shoals and submerged trees that you could walk across without a bump (for the most part). It has been awhile since I have had that much fun fishing. We or "I" caught 3 and missed a few, not bad for our first trip there. The one pictured is in the high teens or barely 20lbs. All fish were caught on live gizzard shad.

I used to float down from the Etowah dam to Rockmart highway. (Portage around the little carpet mill dam was a pita!) Never fished it but saw some big ones down in the deep holes!

Nice fish! In the summer, river fishing is much more enjoyable than lake fishing for Stripers, especially when the river is COLD.

Congrats.
