Single Action/Double action??

Single action does not raise the hammer, double action raises the hammer before releasing it, thats the simpliest explaination that i can give.
then you have different nomenclatures such as SA/DA, which means the weapon operates primarily in a single action mode but if a misfire occurs it reverts to doube action and you can simply pull the trigger and the hammer will rise and fall (this is found in many striker fired weapons),then you have double action only which you can not cock th pistol even if it has a hammer, and then the hybrid systems that are not really either as is found in many of the micro pocket pistol 380's that the returning (racking ) the slide partially cocks the hammer and then the trigger raises it completely and allows it to fall.
these are normally listed as DAO as the trigger does raise the hammer some before releasing it.
all this gets kind of corn=fusing to us southern boys!-LOL
