What are you doing for acid reflux?

For those with acid reflux and have had it for years, talk to your doctor about having a upper gi done. I have had it since I was 25 and I am now 62. The upper gi just checke the esophagus ffor acid damage or pre cancerous cells. I have one done every five years.

My father-in-law suffered with it from youth and died of esophageal cancer at 63.

Sorry to hear that, you don’t hear of it to often but it is becoming more common. My stomach just happens to produce a lot of acid. Enough that at 24 I lost 8 pints of blood due to an ulcer in the top part of the stomach. For about the next five years off and on I I would have to have rubber hoses pushed down my throat to open up the bottom of my esophagus. It would get to the point that food would not pass into my stomach. This was due to the fact that the acid would crystallize at the bottom and hardened up. I haven’t had to do that in thirty years since taking medication

I took / Take Tagament for years & tried most other antacids , I finally got Hernia / Reflux surgery back in Oct/ Nov , it worked for a while but now morning stomach pain is 4 -5 days a week .

Dr's can not seem to figure out my issue but I got a couple ideas .

Hope you get better ASAP .

Dang !

Glad your better.

I also had 2 ulcers since 2015 , but caught then before they got too bad .

Worry / OCD & Anxiety is 80% of my issue IMO .

Avoid chemicals (aka medication) for preventable problems at all costs! All of my siblings are on medication for reflux, except me.
Everyone is different. The left side sleeping has zero effect for me.
For me it's simple. For dinner if I eat too late, a high fat meal, high acid meal, or simply eat too much, I'm going to have a rough night. Any combination of those things things just compounds it. High fat is way way worse than high acid for me.
Recently I noticed if I felt I was going to have problems, a small bowl of cereal and milk before bed helps you immensely. No idea why. I tend not to question success.
Milk helps settle your stomach, the cereal will help soak up acid

Definitely keep this in check

I recommend you don’t start taking otc heartburn meds as the fix. At least not without a doctor recommendation. They say on the bottle not to take them for more than two weeks and I figured out why. They can jack up your digestion pretty bad and for me it was worse than the heartburn. Once I figured out it was that crap I quit taking it and just try to eat better. Gut health is really just listening to your body

Watch what you eat and sleep on your left side and never the right side.

Update: I lost 40 lbs and I haven’t taken or needed Prilosec or Tums in months. Mostly, I stopped eating processed foods…still cheat here and there but reduced sugar and flour consumption to the point it doesn’t trigger my reflux anymore.
