45 acp sd/hd carry round

Dr. Fackler did a multi year study on the effectiveness of pistol rounds for the FBI.He is or was the leading authority on the subject after doing hundreds if not thousands of autopsy studies of shooting subjects. What he found was that the good ole .45 ACP fmj round was 90% effective for a one shot stop.Hollowpoint ammo was marginally better at 92%.To put that into perspective,we know the .357 125 grain HP is a good man stopper and it was only the same 92%.For these small gains, gimme the very reliable cost effective fmj.Now where hollow point rounds really up the effectiveness of a cartridge is in the smaller self defense rounds like the 9mm.A 115 grain fmj had a very anemic 60% one shot stop effectiveness then jumped to 88% with the very stout, but expensive,Winchester 115 grain silvertip.Thats some of the beauty in the .45 ACP.There is no shortcuts or substitutes for caliber. They have had it right since 1911,or there abouts.

I still carry a 1911 from time to time, Hydra Shok rounds. It feeds in all my 1911's, good to know. The only HP that wasn't reliable was the Speer Flying Ashtray of old, a heck of a cartridge. It's on the right..
