I have apparently developed an allergy to iodine late in life. I have eaten shellfish all my life with no problems.
When they asked me if I was allergic to iodine a couple of years ago (in advance of a heart cath with contrast) I replied “no”.
That turned out to be wrong. My face blew up like a balloon...
So, for perhaps the first time since then I had some crab cakes for dinner.
That has not worked out well.
Got home and about an hour ago my hands started tingling and stinging. Weird feeling. So I get up and go to kitchen for water...and all of a sudden my tongue is swollen and neck is tight under my chin.WTH??!!
I grab the Benedryl and pop a couple.
I got better on the way here to ER.
This ain’t how I wanted to end my Father’s Day...

Did you get then to write you a scrip for a couple epinephrine injectors? If not, tell your doctor next time so he/she can fix you up...much faster than benadryl
