Do you tell police you have a gun in the car?

If I have one loaded for self defense, yes. I don't do it because I feel I need to. I just do it as a courtesy to the officer. Their job is tough enough. They don't need any surprises. I have never had a problem.

I was wondering when you would respond to this.

For those guys who volunteer their GWL .... why? Especially if it's in a glove box or concealed carry. I dont see the reason because the next question from the LEO will probably be . Where is the weapon?

It never has been for me. They have never asked any questions about where or what it is. I have only had one ask to see my GWL after being informed I had a weapon and he was very polite about it.

Putting hands out windows, saying there's nothing illegal in the car, holding the wheel with both hands, ECT Are indicators that the person has had multible contacts with LEO. This usually merits extra attention, not less.Just be normal, but don't be reaching around or under anything. Cops expect you to be looking for things like registration and such, although I would suggest just waiting for the cop to get to the door before and big movements. Most people have one or less encounters with LEO in their life's. Some of y'all that talk about all the times you've been pulled over really worry me. Then again wham I was real young I got pulled over way more than now (maybe five times as a proffesional driver), as I realized the world did not revolve around me...

Ken, when I get pulled over and do what I do, the LEO usually say "either you've been pulled over a lot or you're in law enforcement." I just look at em and say C, all of the above.

no

not required in GA

volunteering info to a leo is never a good idea.

only give yes and no answers.

and say "I dont consent to search, am I free to go?"

Yep, cops are the enemy and it's best to set up a confrontational environment whenever you interact with them.

We seriously need a sarcasm font.

Here's the deal. You give a inch, they are trained to take a mile.

So any detailed answer you give or volunteered information will always lead to another question more intrusive or a more intrusive action regarding your rights.

Be respectful and polite. Answer only the questions asked with short answers if required and make sure you inquire for the reason you're in that situation at all.

I have never encountered this in any way.

Because the cops I've encountered tend to let you off a little easier when you show it.
GWL shows you have a decent record before they go and look anything up.

less tickets = less money spent

Why are you getting tickets? Not to the policemens ball I take it? I'm thick I still dont see the need. Of course I've been driving for 55 years and never pulled over.
