Great find in my chicken coop tonight!!

I'm certainly no expert, I simply pass on my observations. I have been catching, studying, and breeding snakes for nearly 50 yrs and only had chickens for the last 19 yrs. Is it possible that your hens were trying to protect their coop and were pecking the snakes? If so, I would expect the snake to defend itself.

No, the hens were on roost well after dark. I heard a commotion and went to check, thinking a fox or coon had somehow gotten into their enclosure. Found the snake still actively constricting the hen.

That's too bad, sorry for your loss of the hens (them fresh eggs sure are tasty!). If you are anywhere near Douglasville, I'll be happy to come remove any snakes from your property. I can't keep enough of them around, the hawks are bad at my place.

Have you ever raised chickens ??
THEY kill & EAT their own. More than any snake will!!
If you spend some time around a chicken house & you will find out just how NASTY chickens are.

I still remember the day I found out a chicken will eat chicken. Cannibals!

They also eat your eggs and kill your chickens.

thats right they prey more on fowl than rodents have caught several trying raid song bird nest around my place

Chicken snake. Also called rat snake. I caught one in my hen house and it spit up the egg it had eaten trying to get me to let it go. I set it free as they are good to have around.
