Our 1st house in Kennesaw 1981 had a 17% interest rate. Brand new house $35,000. New car $6000.
Yeah like others said, bad inflation those early 80s years too so not really the "right" comparison. Also, where on earth did you actually find a base model Corvette for sale? None of the dealerships near me actually have a base model. More like mid to high end and base price closer to 80k. I know GM quotes those online but usually you'd have to special order and request a base model 'Vette from a dealer. All everyone near me has are Stingrays and higher.
