Well they did it, ATF is saying 120 days to register braced pistols as SBR's or to make em rifles.

EDIT: Didn't see there was already a thread in firearms chat.

I'm still reading it but appears they're waiving tax for a limited period. Ditched the form 4999 and are basically ruling any braced weapon with an sb3 or newer as an sbr. Also includes Roni's and the like as banned.

Yup, that will flatline e-forms. Plus the wait times will go through the roof.

Funny thing will be I doubt anyone will actually Form 1 a 'braced' gun. Why would you when the simpler option will be to just take the brace off.

Instead people who have been thinking about an SBR/SBS and are familiar with the process will jump on it as a way to save $200.

Just reading through it now... One interesting tidbit:

To transfer an affected firearm to another individual after the date this rule is published, it must be registered in the NFRTR, and the individual must submit and receive approval on an Application for Tax Paid Transfer and Registration of Firearm, ATF Form 4; otherwise, the transfer is a violation of the NFA. See 26 U.S.C. 5861(e).

So if you try and sell your braced gun after the rule is published (is that today?) it's no different than selling an SBR.
