out of state and step dad is giving me a pistol.

A person may borrow or rent a firearm in any State for temporary use for lawful sporting purposes.

You need for him to fill out a rental agreement.

OR

I thought you brought that gun with you??
^^^this^^^

if it's not 'registered' as his in MI, and we don't register them here in GA, why would there be any problems? I'd go out of my way to drive around IL though. them punks are gun haters sho nuff!

No Sir.

Where does it say family is OK?

I just had to do this with my dad, who had to re-do his will, specifically naming me in the will as the person who would inherit his firearms.

An "out of state" transfer has to go through an FFL, in the new owners state.

Family members can "buy" and "gift" firearms to family members in-state only.

Unless its a loaner or rental.

I can see if it is 'registered' in MI, it could be a whole 'nother group of problems, but would it have been any different if the step dad had legally brought the pistol to GA and gifted it here? Or...would that have to go through an FFL?
